Developers can experiment with the upcoming upgrades on the Mekong Testnet without affecting the mainnet or other Ethereum testnets like Holesky and Sepolia. One of the primary features that can be explored is an updated staking workflow with changes to deposit and withdrawal functions. While minor tweaks may still occur, the features tested in the Mekong Testnet are expected to be integrated into the mainnet.
The testnet is named after the Mekong River, which flows through Southeast Asia. With Devcon set to take place in the region before the Pectra upgrade, the Foundation chose the name to reflect the local connection. The Pectra upgrade aims to improve scalability, efficiency, and security by introducing Verkle Trees to optimize blockchain data storage and enhance Ethereum’s execution and consensus layers.
