Solana Mobile, a subsidiary of Solana Labs, recently announced the upcoming release of its second-generation web3 smartphone, the Seeker, set to launch in 2025. During the Token2049 event, the Seeker was revealed to have already secured over 140,000 pre-orders from 57 different countries. Anatoly Yakovenko, co-founder of Solana and CEO of Solana Labs, emphasized the importance of making the Seeker more accessible, affordable, and deeply integrated for web3 users. This new device aims to build upon the foundation established by its predecessor, the Solana Saga.
Key features of the Seeker include the Seed Vault Wallet, a mobile-first crypto wallet that is integrated with the device’s self-custodial Seed Vault. Developed in collaboration with Solflare, this wallet offers seamless web3 experiences with features such as double-tap transactions and simplified account management. Additionally, the Seeker will introduce the Solana dApp Store 2.0, featuring an updated rewards tracker and improved app discoverability across various sectors including payments, DeFi, DePIN, NFTs, AI, and gaming. The Seeker Genesis Token, a unique NFT, will provide users with exclusive access, rewards, offers, and content within the Solana ecosystem.
In terms of hardware improvements, the Seeker boasts a lighter design, brighter display, enhanced camera capabilities, and extended battery life compared to its predecessor. Early founder pricing for the Seeker is set at $450 for presale, available until September 21st. The Seeker aims to address the challenges faced by the Solana Saga, which initially struggled with low sales figures due to issues such as device weight, connectivity problems, software bugs, and limited repair options. However, the Saga experienced a surge in demand after an airdrop of BONK tokens to phone owners, leading to sales surpassing 150,000 units and the device selling out in the US by December 2023.
The success of the Solana Saga has inspired increased development within the Solana community for web3 mobile technology. Ecosystem teams are actively creating decentralized applications, rewards, and features exclusively for the Seeker ahead of its launch. The anticipation for the Seeker is expected to drive further adoption of Solana’s mobile technologies. With positive market movements, Solana has shown strong performance compared to other top projects, currently priced at $140, up 8% in the past 24 hours. The Seeker is poised to be a significant player in the growing web3 mobile market, offering users a seamless and integrated experience within the Solana ecosystem.
